Aït Saoun Meteorite – Authentic Enstatite Chondrite from a Witnessed Fall (0.34g)
🌠 Own a Rare Piece of the Cosmos! 🌠

This is a 0.34-gram fusion-crusted chondrite meteorite from a very recent, witnessed fall near Aït Saoun, Morocco. Based on initial analysis, it is expected to be classified as a rare EH3 or EH4 enstatite chondrite, making it highly desirable for collectors and researchers alike. This specimen comes with a small acrylic display case for safekeeping.

The Aït Saoun Enstatite Chondrite
On the evening of August 6, 2024, at 10:45 PM, a brilliant fireball illuminated the skies over Aït Saoun. The explosion was seen and heard across the Sahara Desert, prompting an intense meteorite recovery effort the following day.

In the weeks after the fall, only 2-3 kilograms of meteorites were recovered, making this find exceptionally rare. Many of these fragments exhibit stunning fusion crusts and signs of atmospheric orientation.

Originally thought to be a carbonaceous meteorite, further study identified it as an EH3/4 enstatite chondrite, a unique and scientifically significant classification. The final classification is pending confirmation from the Meteoritical Bulletin and is expected to be updated soon.

What Makes Enstatite (E-Type) Chondrites Special?
🔹 Extremely Rare – Enstatite chondrites represent less than 2% of all known meteorites.
🔹 Early Solar System Material – These meteorites provide insight into the formation of planets and may have originated inside Mercury’s orbit.
🔹 Unique Composition – High in enstatite, metal grains, and sulfides, their oxygen isotopic composition is similar to that of the Earth and Moon.
🔹 Potential Asteroid Origins – Studies suggest a link to M-type asteroids like 16 Psyche or 22 Kalliope.

EH chondrites (like this specimen) have a higher iron content, smaller chondrules, and abundant metal grains, making them particularly interesting for classification and study.
